What is the International Day of Light?

The International Day of Light is a global initiative by UNESCO to commemorate light and its significance in science, culture, art, education, and sustainable development. It honors the anniversary of the first successful operation of the laser in 1960 by Theodore Maiman, a physicist and engineer.

The day highlights the importance of light in various fields, such as medicine, communications, astronomy, and clean energy. It also promotes public understanding of optics and photonics and their applications in daily life.
