Brazil Endorses Bid to Host Women’s World Cup 2027

On Thursday, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva officially backed the country’s bid to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup, marking the first ever to be held in Latin America. Lula was joined by the president of the Brazilian soccer confederation, Ednaldo Rodrigues, and Sports Minister Ana Moser at the ceremony held in Brazil’s presidential palace.

Despite the bid not yet being delivered to FIFA, plans are already underway to host the tournament in Brazil. With two other potential contenders (Belgium-Netherlands-Germany joint bid and South Africa) and the possibility of a bid from the United States, competition to host the prestigious event will undoubtedly be intense.

Brazil’s President Voices Support for Women’s Participation in Sports

During the ceremony, Lula expressed the significance of this event for Brazil and the people. He believes hosting the World Cup will help raise people’s political consciousness regarding women’s participation in every field they can and want to take part in. Ultimately, he hopes that hosting the tournament will encourage women’s effective participation in Brazil’s sports industry.

Lula, who is 77 years old, made his first public appearance since recovering from pneumonia. He displayed his endorsement for the Women’s World Cup by lifting the trophy, which is currently traveling to all 32 countries participating in this year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Potential Host Cities for Women’s World Cup 2027 Final

If Brazil wins the bid, the mayors of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo have already expressed their interest in hosting the tournament’s final, which would bring international attention to their cities and highlight their capabilities for hosting large-scale events.

Brazil’s 1950 and 2014 World Cup Host Legacy

Brazil, which hosted the men’s World Cup twice in 1950 and 2014, has a rich history of hosting significant global sports tournaments. The women’s team, which was the runner-up at the 2007 World Cup in China, believes hosting the tournament will provide a similarly memorable experience.

FIFA is expected to announce its choice of the host for the 2027 tournament next year.
