Exploring the Intersection of Board Games, Faith, and Cultural Identity

LOGAN, Utah — An upcoming library exhibit at Utah State University will delve into the intersection of board games, faith and cultural identity within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Gallery Talk and Opening

The USU Libraries exhibit Playing Religion will open with a gallery talk from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, in Room 101 of the Merrill-Cazier Library, located on the Logan campus.

Professors Rebecca Y. Bayeck of Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences and Patrick Mason of History & Religious Studies will lead the gallery talk, introducing the exhibit and providing context on the significance of Mormon board games. With their expert insights, the event will illuminate how these games have been a means to teach faith, reinforce core values, and cultivate a sense of community among participants.

Interactive Experience

The exhibit will feature a variety of board games in which religious education and community-building have been woven into everyday life. Demo copies of select games will be available for attendees to play, providing a hands-on experience of how these games foster interaction, learning and shared cultural practices.

The exhibit will end March 15.
