Gil Mor, M.D., Ph.D., Receives 2024 Huaxia Medical Science Award

Gil Mor, M.D., Ph.D., the scientific director of the C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, was recently honored with the 2024 Huaxia Medical Science Award. The prestigious award, presented by the China Preventive Medicine Association and the Huaxia Medical Association, recognizes Dr. Mor’s significant contributions to the field of medical science.

The award ceremony took place in Guangzhou, China, on Dec. 14, where Dr. Mor was recognized for his outstanding work in the realm of international collaboration and research. This accolade highlights his dedication to advancing medical science and strengthening ties between global medical communities.

Dr. Mor’s Contributions in Reproductive Immunology and Cancer Research

As the John M. Malone Jr., M.D., Endowed Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at WSU, Dr. Mor is widely renowned for his work in reproductive immunology and cancer research. His collaborations with esteemed Chinese institutions, such as Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), have played a crucial role in advancing these fields.

Over the past decade, Dr. Mor has actively participated in educational and academic endeavors in China. He has delivered numerous lectures at top Chinese academic institutions, hospitals, and national conferences, sharing his expertise in the fields of pregnancy and immunology. Additionally, his collaboration with Professor Liao Aihua from HUST has led to the publication of 39 co-authored papers in peer-reviewed journals and contributions to book chapters on reproductive immunology.

Establishing Partnerships and Educational Initiatives

In 2019, Dr. Mor and Professor Liao co-founded the International Women’s Health Research Program, a collaborative initiative between Wayne State University and HUST. This program aims to advance research in women’s health and foster international cooperation in the field.

Furthermore, Dr. Mor has held advisory roles in prominent Chinese institutions, including serving on the International Advisory Committee for the Sino-American Center of Translational Medicine at Southern Medical University. His dedication to mentoring students and promoting knowledge exchange has earned him honorary academic titles at various Chinese universities.
