The Opening of Prost Beer Hall in Elk Grove
David Smith and Jamie Dougherty are excited to announce the opening of their new business, Prost Beer Hall, in the heart of Old Town Elk Grove. The couple, who also owns Old Town Pizza and the recently revived Y-Not Club, will be opening the German-inspired restaurant and bar on Wednesday, July 26. The establishment is located at 9085 Elk Grove Blvd., in the former location of Lola’s Lounge and the Elk Grove Brewery and Restaurant.
A Warm Welcome
Smith and Dougherty hosted an invitation-only trial run for their relatives and friends on July 17, in preparation for the public opening of Prost Beer Hall, which will be held on Wednesday, July 26. The business will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays through Fridays, and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Smith mentioned that the opening will be a simple one, with no grand celebration planned.
A Dream Realized
The opening of Prost Beer Hall represents the fulfillment of a dream for Dougherty. She shared that the journey began with a “pre-COVID thought” and the couple purchased the building in December 2019. However, due to delays caused by the pandemic, the opening had been postponed multiple times. Dougherty expressed her excitement about finally opening the doors to the public, stating, “The excitement is real, and we’re very happy about it.”
Preserving the History
Smith emphasized the importance of preserving the historic nature of the building, which was built in the late 1800s. The couple worked hard to bring the building back to its original state, including restoring the hardwood floors, exposing a previously covered window, and maintaining the original brickwork. Smith expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “Things take time, but it’s finally here.”
A Taste of Germany
Prost Beer Hall offers a menu of German-inspired dishes with California touches. The beer list is largely German-inspired, with local crafts included as well. The establishment also serves modern and classic cocktails, along with a selection of German and Austrian wines. Guests attending the pre-opening event were able to sample items from the menu, including the hot schnitzel sandwich and the sausage platter.
Staff and Entertainment
Key staff members at Prost Beer Hall include chef Matt Tui, bar manager Quinn Barnes, and Lucas Hernandez who oversees the extensive beer program. Plans are underway to feature live music, and the establishment also has TVs to screen men’s and women’s soccer games, according to Dougherty.
Feedback and Excitement
Guests at the trial run of Prost Beer Hall shared their positive impressions of the place and its offerings. Former Elk Grove Brewery brewer Bill Wood praised the renovations and the tap list, while Andrew Mohsenzadegan, co-owner of Elk Grove’s Flatland Brewing Company, commended the energetic atmosphere. Sam Blackmon of the Elk Grove Brewers Guild appreciated the authenticity of the German-inspired establishment, and Tony Safer reminisced about his experiences at the old Elk Grove Brewery. Elk Grove resident Scott Sweeney expressed his excitement for the opening, highlighting the friendly service and fantastic food.
