Faith Academy Holds First History Exhibition
In Imperial, Faith Academy organized a History Exhibition on March 17, which was the first of its kind for the school. The event, which happened to fall on St. Patrick’s Day, was held in the school’s gym and was attended by many visitors.
Exhibition Highlights
The gym was packed with exhibits that included tri-fold poster boards containing relevant information, clay creations, cultural food samples, and PowerPoint presentations. Kinder-through-eighth grade students got to select a topic suggested by their teachers, and present their projects to their family and friends.
Abeka Curriculum
The school has always held science fairs in the past. However, this time the students utilized the “Abeka curriculum,” which is a Christian-based curriculum that teaches from a different perspective. In this exhibition, the students learned about history and presented their projects from a God’s perspective. Martha Camacho, the Kindergarten teacher and History Exhibition coordinator, explained the advantages of teaching through the Abeka curriculum.
Cultivating Creativity
The teachers helped the students to cultivate their creativity in making their projects. Students were able to express what they learned through video, poster boards, PowerPoint, cultural food, or performances. Camacho emphasized the importance of teaching in the best possible way.
Developing Good Citizens
Camacho explained that the exhibition helped to develop good citizens with good moral standards in addition to teaching history. She loves to see the character development of her students who use the words they learn outside of the classroom.
Student Comments
Many students enjoyed presenting their projects and sharing their knowledge. Here are some comments from a few students:
- Second-grader Emily Cerdea did a project on the Star Spangled Banner and enjoyed singing.
- Sixth-grader Zoy Chan created a project on Columbia, a country in South America. Inspired by a movie called Encanto.
- Third-grader Ethan Ojada created a project on the U.S. state of Wyoming, and his favorite thing about Wyoming were the bison.
- Seventh-grader Brooke Garneau enjoyed learning about the Great Pyramids of Egypt, and liked working with her partner.
- Fifth-grader Elian Valdez did a project on the country of Ecuador, and spoke about the animals of the region.
Conclusion
This exhibition was a great opportunity for the students of Faith Academy to learn about history from a different perspective and express their creativity. The event was a success, and it will likely be continued in the future.
