Understanding Diabetes
Diabetes is a chronic health condition that affects the body’s ability to convert food into energy. Patients with the condition may not necessarily show symptoms at first, which is why it is often referred to as a “silent killer”. However, if left unmanaged or not detected in time, diabetes can negatively affect the entire body, including cardiovascular health, eyesight, and kidney function. As such, it is vital for diabetics to make lifestyle changes, follow a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and ensure they get enough sleep to keep their glucose levels in check.
The Role of Lifestyle Changes
Lifestyle plays a crucial role in the management of both pre-diabetes and diabetes. Factors such as food choices, exercise, and sufficient sleep are essential to regulating glucose levels in the body. Adopting healthy habits can help individuals avoid medication and heal diabetes ayurvedically.
Can Diabetes Be “Healed”?
According to Dr. Rajiv Kovil, diabetologist and Chairperson at Zandra Healthcare, diabetes and pre-diabetes can enter a state of remission rather than complete reversal. However, including curd in one’s diet can be beneficial and is not required to be avoided in diabetes unless an individual has specific intolerance to curd. Eating early and having a lighter dinner is advisable, while overeating should be avoided. Eating at regular intervals, every 2 to 3 hours, rather than solely relying on hunger cues helps regulate blood sugar levels and offers long-term benefits for diabetes management, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and overall health.
